I spent years searching for the magic bullet to fix my health issues. The magic diet, the perfect supplement, this program and that program. If only I could find the one perfect tool.
I’d get my hopes up listening to crazy good testimonials about how something cured someone of something - then when nothing happened, I’d kick myself for wasting my money on yet another promised cure.
I began to feel like the Universe had this unwritten law that things would work for other people but not for me.

Having chronic health challenges from day-one of my life was both a blessing and a curse - although I only saw the curse part for many decades. Realization that there was a blessing here required my experiencing a long string of “failures” that finally lit up the lightbulb that the magic bullet did not exist.
How was this a blessing?
💡 It freed me from the compulsion to keep searching for something I was never going to find.
Embracing this new perspective allowed me to channel my energy more productively. With more realistic expectations, I could actually help myself and ultimately be more helpful to others as well.
Why There Is No Magic Bullet When It Comes to Health
If there’s no magic bullet, then what’s the secret to successfully nudging aside chronic health issues that are maddening in their tenacity, refusing to budge no matter how many interventions we try?
It’s a million little things - a million little things that work together.
Building your health is like building a house. You can’t build a house with just a hammer. I don’t care if it’s the best hammer in the world - it can’t do everything. But add in a set of quality screwdrivers, a measuring tape, a few hacksaws, staple gun, ladders, an air compressor, maybe an excavator, and a great drill - now you have a solid plan!
I had been looking for one magical tool that would do everything - an endlessly futile quest.
🧰 Using the right tool for the right task means having a lot of good tools to choose from. So, I became a tool collector!
I started with the simple things.
Good nutrition. Good air. Good water. Good sleep. Good friends. Nature. Pets. You know, the basics. Over time, I realized the importance of tending to my emotional and spiritual health as well. Each requires a different tool. Again, no magic bullets.
In my ever-expanding tool arsenal, I found many things helpful - some more than others. The ones that were not so great got tossed or passed along.
I’ve learned that nothing works for everyone, but everyone will find something that will work.
What’s in Your Product Graveyard?
I’ve tried a lot of products. Between my years as an RN and then as a nurse practitioner, followed by two decades in the natural health industry - not to mention my relentless efforts at self treatment - I amassed quite a collection.
A precious few products have become my daily go-tos. A few others are good enough to use up but not good enough to buy again. But then there’s that third category - the real disappointments.
These products are soon exiled to the back of the cabinet where things go to die because I can’t throw them out (yet). They live there until I forget how long it’s been, until I happen to remember they’re there - OR - throwing them out is now acceptable because they’ve expired and are obviously no good anymore.
