Protecting your health is as much about what you put ON your body as what you put in your body, so I am very selective about every ingredient that goes into these special products.

When an ingredient is not locally available, I make every attempt to source it from growers who implement the following practices:

Why is there an apothecary in a shungite store?

The Shungite Queen Apothecary grew out of a deeply personal health crisis. After suffering an undiagnosed avulsion fracture during a shoulder procedure, founder Valerie Burke — a nurse practitioner — turned to handcrafted herbal oils for pain relief and healing. The results were so profound that adding an apothecary to the store became the natural next step.

What sets these apothecary products apart?

Literally every detail! Attention is paid to every ingredient and phase of the process to maximize the potency of these oils, creams and other products. For example, I use a two-phase herbal extraction process for my whole herb oils that breaks down the cell wall of the herbs, resulting in a far more concentrated product than you will find elsewhere.

How are these apothecary products made?

These apothecary products are made in small batches with fresh herbs and oils, pure and chemical free. Many of the herbs are grown in my own organic garden, and others are sourced from local growers. All are handmade using the strictest quality and ethical standards. I am very selective about every single ingredient that goes into these special formulations.

Are these products organic?

I do not have organic certification but I use certified organic or biodynamically grown ingredients in all my products, whenever possible. Some suppliers are not certified but fully implementing organic or biodynamic practices. I support tho ones who practice fair trade and sustainability.

Are herbal products safe?

Yes, overall, topical herbal products are very safe. That said, it's always wise to take precautions. Any person can experience skin sensitivity or an allergic reaction to anything, at any time. When starting a new product, always perform a patch test on a small area of skin, like the inner elbow, and wait 24 hours before applying more widely.
