Frankincense Oil with a Lab-Verified 70% Boswellic Acid Extract
Boswellia carterii Extract in Organic Sesame Oil
This is frankincense resin oil, not essential oil: a concentrated oil made with a premium boswellic acid extract from Boswellia carterii resin, dissolved in organic sesame oil. The extract contains 70% or more boswellic acids, including AKBA, verified by independent lab testing on every batch.

The extract comes from Grade 1 Boswellia carterii resin from Somalia, using the resin left behind after essential oil distillation. That’s the part most producers discard, and it’s where the boswellic acids remain.
Learn how the extract is made →
Because it’s already concentrated and suspended in a carrier oil, it needs no further dilution. As with any new topical, patch test first (see Safety below).
Is this the same thing as frankincense essential oil?
Not at all!
They are quite different. Essential oils capture only the smaller volatile compounds of a plant. Boswellic acids, the compounds most studied in Boswellia research, are too large to be carried over by steam distillation, so they come from the whole resin, not the distillate.
I cover this and the latest research about boswellia in my comprehensive report about frankincense oil, The Gem of the Healing Kingdom: Frankincense Oil.
Here is more great news - this frankincense oil has the same wonderfully intoxicating scent as its essential oil cousin!
Seriously, what's not to love?
Why Sesame Oil?
Sesame oil is used as the base because it is a traditional carrier in Ayurvedic practice, where it has been used for centuries in massage and topical herbal preparations. An Ayurvedic practitioner whom I have known and trusted for many years advised me that sesame oil is regarded by Ayurvedic practitioners as the deepest penetrating of all carrier oils.

FAQ
Is this frankincense essential oil? No. Essential oil is steam-distilled and contains the small volatile compounds. This product contains a boswellic acid extract from the resin, in sesame oil.
What’s the difference between 70% BA and AKBA? 70% BA means total boswellic acids make up at least 70% of the extract. AKBA is one specific boswellic acid within that group.
Does it need to be diluted? No, it’s already in a carrier oil.
Can I take it by mouth? No. This oil is external use only. (We offer a separate frankincense capsule supplement.)

Apothecary FAQ
Apothecary FAQ
Apothecary FAQ
🌿 How are these apothecary products made?
These apothecary products are made in small batches with fresh herbs and oils, pure and chemical free. Many of the herbs are grown in my own organic garden, and others are sourced from local growers. All are handmade using the strictest quality and ethical standards. I am very selective about every single ingredient that goes into these special formulations.
🌿 What sets these apothecary products apart?
Literally every detail! Attention is paid to every ingredient and phase of the process to maximize the potency of these oils, creams and other products. For example, I use a two-phase herbal extraction process for my whole herb oils that breaks down the cell wall of the herbs, resulting in a far more concentrated product than you will find elsewhere.
🌿 Are these products organic?
I do not have organic certification but I use certified organic or biodynamically grown ingredients in all my products, whenever possible. Some suppliers are not certified but fully implementing organic or biodynamic practices. I support those who practice fair trade and sustainability.
🌿 Are herbal products safe?
Yes, topical herbal products are generally very safe. That said, it's always wise to take precautions. Any person can experience skin sensitivity or an allergic reaction to anything, at any time. When starting a new product, always perform a patch test on a small area of skin, like the inner elbow, and wait 24 hours before applying more widely.
🌿 Why is there an apothecary in a shungite store?
As a nurse, I have always believed that health and wellness requires a multifaceted approach - there is no magic bullet. We should all be avoiding chemical laden products if we hope to overcome any health challenge - be it electrohypersensitivity or something else. My passion for herbal medicine led to my desire to share these special formulations with the world.
